Jonas’ arrival stirred up the city early, and I opted to work from home. The first flakes began to fall in the afternoon, scattered but definite.

Pan-seared salmon fillet for dinner. Can’t get the skin right.

Finished the lyrics of a song long overdue and recorded the demo. Acoustic guitar alone does not do justice for this song, but it’s what I got. Had some fun with the bridge. Whistling comes in handy, at times.

Everything else is blanketed white, and it’s still snowing. Blizzarding? A good foot of snow overnight (maybe more), I figured. Snowflakes flurrying about, some straight down, others sideways, even reversing up towards the unwelcoming sky. Started sketching a new song. Potential title: Snowflakes Rising?

Snow stopped falling. Revised the lyrics to the snow song.

Finished “All the Pretty Horses” by Cormac McCarthy. Took awhile to get over not knowing any of the horse-related terms, but beautiful story. Looking forward to finishing his border trilogy soon.

Snowbirthday. And a stay-home day. Warm kelp soup for breakfast, from the one and only. Went out for Chinese food with friends for dinner, coffee afterward. How often do we take for granted the company of genuinely kind, understanding people.

Read this article about “Planet Nine”. (http://www.theatlantic.com/science/archive/2016/01/a-new-planet-or-a-red-herring/426810/)

Started sketching a new song.

Another stay-home day.

Finally reading “Between the World and Me” by Ta-Nehisi Coates. Powerful, elegant prose. Sincere to the letter. Describes his experience in terms of his body and galaxies.

Writing, re-writing lyrics to “Planet Nine”. Basic idea of the song is there, but I can’t settle on a melody.
